Wizards of the Coast has announced a new Secret Lair Superdrop collaboration with Capcom's Monster Hunter franchise, marking another major crossover between Magic: The Gathering and a beloved video game series. The announcement, made through an official press release, reveals a four-part collection that will be available from December 1st at 9am PT to December 22nd at 11:59pm PT, though supplies are expected to sell out quickly based on previous Secret Lair sales patterns.

The Monster Hunter Secret Lair collection includes four separate drops, each priced at $29.99 for non-foil versions and $39.99 for foil editions. Unlike some previous Secret Lair collaborations, these drops feature reprints of existing Magic cards with Monster Hunter-themed artwork rather than mechanically unique cards. The four drops are titled "The Hunt," "The Hunters," "The Monsters," and "The Monsters II," each focusing on different aspects of the Monster Hunter universe.

"While we're excited about this collaboration between two beloved franchises, we'd love to see Wizards increase print runs for Secret Lair drops like this one. Making these cards more accessible to players who want them—rather than creating artificial scarcity that drives up secondary market prices—would strengthen the Magic community as a whole."

Release Details and Availability

The Monster Hunter Secret Lair Superdrop will be available exclusively through the Secret Lair website starting December 1st at 9am PT. Each of the four drops can be purchased individually, with non-foil versions priced at $29.99 and foil versions at $39.99. The drops will remain available until December 22nd at 11:59pm PT or until supplies run out.

Based on previous Secret Lair sales patterns, particularly for major collaborations like the PlayStation Superdrop, these products are likely to sell out quickly. Wizards has not announced specific print run numbers, which has been a point of contention among collectors who feel limited availability drives up secondary market prices unnecessarily.

Many players and collectors have noted that increased print runs for popular Secret Lair drops would make these special products more accessible to the broader Magic community. Rather than treating these collaborations as exclusive collectibles with intentionally limited availability, a return to print-to-demand practices would ensure that everyone who wants these cards can actually obtain them at the manufacturer's suggested retail price.

What This Means for Players

For Monster Hunter fans who are new to Magic, these Secret Lair drops offer an accessible entry point with familiar imagery on established Magic cards. For longtime Magic players, the collaboration provides unique artwork variants of powerful cards that can be used in Commander and other casual formats.

From a gameplay perspective, none of the cards in this Secret Lair drop introduce new mechanics or power level concerns for competitive formats. Since all cards are reprints with new artwork, they maintain their existing format legality. This makes the drop primarily appealing for collectors, Commander players who value unique artwork, and fans of both franchises looking to expand their collections.
